The Planting Weather Forecast Looks Favorable Next Week

Is there another planting window opening up across Michigan? This is the Planting Weather Forecast from MAT Chief Meteorologist Ryan Martin brought to you by Seed Genetics Direct- the largest Ohio-based independent seed company and the Eastern Corn Belt’s fastest growing independent seed company. Visit seedgeneticsdirect.com for more information.

Martin says it’ll be a mostly dry week across the state except for a couple little hiccups.

“We see the weekend turning out sunny, warm, and dry for the most part with above normal temperatures over Michigan, but there’s going to be one minor inconvenience and that is a disturbance with some scattered showers, maybe a rumble of thunder, overnight Saturday night into early Sunday morning. Coverage is only about 30 to 40 percent of the state in mostly the northern half of Lower Michigan and the UP, but I’m not going to rule the action out anywhere. That could be a little bit of a pause that we have to put in our dry down this upcoming week.”

After that, Martin expects sunny, warm, and dry conditions Sunday through Tuesday with temperatures well above normal.

“We do have a minor front coming through Wednesday afternoon. It looks like the biggest threat of moisture is going to be farther north in Ontario, but I won’t rule out a few hit-and-miss showers, particularly in The Thumb, a few hundredths to maybe half an inch out of that.”

Martin’s forecast calls for sunny and dry weather Thursday through Sunday.

“So, we go right back to good dry down whether. It really looks to me like we should be able to work through some significant fieldwork again by the end of this coming week. I do believe the moisture at midweek is going to be inconsequential.”
