Planting Weather Forecast: Mostly Drier Weather for Next Week

[the_ad id=”33049″]

Drier weather tries to move into Michigan this week. We do have a couple of hiccups we will have to work through but for the time being, we look to be devoid of significant rain or excessive rains over the state, except for parts of the western UP.

The weekend starts with full sun for Saturday and temps that will start to warm. Sunday sees partly to mostly sunny skies in many areas, but we do have a few scattered showers that are trying to move through lower MI, especially central and southern lower MI. Those showers on Sunday may bring a few hundredths to 0.3” with coverage at 50% or less of the state.

Sunshine dominate for Monday, Tuesday and the start of Wednesday. WE will be quite warm with temps above normal for the first half of the week, excellent drying and impressive evaporation. What you can do with that drying is wholly dependent on how much moisture you received the last part of this past week.

A front will slide through Wednesday midday into early Thursday. That front has minimal moisture with it for most of the state, but we see better thunderstorm potential farther west over WI, and some of that will move into the western UP. Most of Michigan has a chance at a few hundredths to .4” and coverage at 60% of the state. Western UP areas can be closer to 1 inch due to thunderstorms. The map at right shows moisture from that midweek system.

We move back to sunny, dry and warm weather to finish next week, Thursday afternoon through the weekend.

Extended Period:

The extended period is a bit more active with 2 systems, both coming in the early to middle part of the week of the 6th. We see rain developing late the 6th into the 7th, and then showers and storms closer to the 9th. Both events can have .25-.75” rain totals, but we do not expect to be in the upper end of the range on both. However, we do see this moisture at the start of the extended period as slowing field work just a bit. The last part of that week and the following weekend will return to a drier pattern with full sun.
