According to the USDA’s Weekly Crop Progress Report for the week ending Sunday, May 29, 2022, 99 percent of the state’s sugarbeet crop is planted.  This compares with 100 percent already planted last year and 98 percent over the past five-year average. At this time, 88 percent of Michigan’s sugarbeet crop has emerged.

In the weekly Sugarbeet Planting Report found below, Dr. Robert Johansson, Director of Economics and Policy Analysis for the American Sugar Alliance, discusses the lack of planting progress for sugarbeet producers in North Dakota and Minnesota, as well as the impact that higher fuel and fertilizer costs are having on Michigan’s sugarbeet producers.
