Growth Energy Backing Bill to Boost Biofuel Infrastructure

Congresswoman Abby Finkenauer (D-IA) introduced the Clean Fuels Deployment Act of 2020. This piece of legislation would authorize $500 million for the Department of Transportation to help retailer offer higher ethanol blends. It would also expand the geographic area selling blends, support the biodiesel industry, and quicken the process of deploying infrastructure to distribute ethanol.

The bipartisan bill is co-sponsored by Reps. Angie Craig (D-MN), Don Bacon (R-NE) and Roger Marshall (R-KS). Given the uncertainty in the industry given the COVID-19 pandemic, Finkenauer said it’s important to fund infrastructure improvements and remove market barriers to access clean and renewable fuels.

Many in the ethanol industry are showing their support for this legislation.

“The strong support of rural champions like Reps. Finkenauer, Marshall, Craig, and Bacon has never been more important, and we are grateful for their continued leadership on behalf of American farmers and biofuel producers,” said Growth Energy CEO Emily Skor. “As we emerge from the COVID-19 downturn, this legislation offers a roadmap for the next wave of growth that will revitalize rural communities and expand cleaner, more affordable options at the pump for millions of American motorists.”

Skor also said that Growth Energy is encouraging Congressional leaders to “embrace this opportunity to support low-carbon biofuels.”
