Indiana’s ag business footprint just became a lot larger, as Elanco Animal Health opens it’s doors to their new $200 million Global Headquarters in downtown Indianapolis.

“We’ve said, ‘It’s not about a building, it’s what we are building,’” said Jeff Simmons, President and CEO of Elanco Animal Health.

The company hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony Wednesday morning to officially open its new Global Headquarters at the site of the former GM stamping facility near the Indianapolis Zoo and Lucas Oil Stadium in downtown Indianapolis.

Simmons tells Hoosier Ag Today that the company’s new corporate headquarters and research laboratories will strengthen its role in bringing high-tech innovation to the ag industry through new medical advancements and treatments for livestock animals.

“I want all the [pork, beef, and poultry producers] out there to hear that this is just another example of confidence that we have in the future of what they do,” said Simmons. “We’re coming alongside of them to make their operations not just more sustainable, but economically sustainable for their generation. This building represents the next 70 years, and our goal is to be alongside of Hoosier farmers for the next 70 years.”

Simmons tells Hoosier Ag Today that part of the innovation from Elanco’s new Global Headquarters will come from a partnership with Purdue University and the creation of the OneHealth Innovation District at the 75-acre site that makes up Elanco’s new headquarters.

“That’s the key thing that excites me the most,” he said. “I’m most excited about what we’re going to create. We’re going to create an ecosystem near this facility. The next building that’s going up is going to be filled by Purdue University. They’re going to bring students and professors and the next generation of innovators. We’re also going to put a real-life veterinarian clinic here so we can practice medicine, just like the Mayo Clinic, but perform innovative veterinarian medicine and research as well.

Simmons credits Elanco’s 70-year partnership with Indiana’s farmers, ag leaders, and lawmakers for creating a thriving environment for Elanco.

“Without question, this new building was done ‘The Hoosier Way’, with great partnerships from the State, the city, and the universities,” said Simmons. “As a fellow Hoosier, I’m proud to have had a front-row seat to this project.”

Elanco, which held its groundbreaking ceremony at that site in April 2022, will officially be completed with the move of its 725 employees from their previous corporate headquarters in Greenfield, Indiana.
