23% of Michigan corn is in the ground and 20% of Michigan soybeans have been planted. Will the weather cooperate to get more planting done here in the next week to 10 days? In the Planting Weather Forecast presented by Greenstone Farm Credit Services, Michigan Ag Today Chief Meteorologist Ryan Martin says Mother Nature is going to cooperate this weekend with dry weather Friday through the early part of next week.
“High pressure is being analyzed in here to kick off the Friday, and that’s going to be dominant right on through Saturday and Sunday, even into next week. Monday looks pretty doggone nice. I think we see partly sunny skies over the weekend at times, but generally speaking, no major weather problems. Any clouds that we expect are fair weather clouds.”
Martin even thinks the dry period could extend through Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.
“But I won’t be surprised to see a little bit more cloud cover around Tuesday as the remains of a system come up out of the deep south into the Eastern Corn Belt. I just don’t think there’s a significant rain threat here, but clouds may give us a slightly cooler mid-week period, particularly Tuesday afternoon, and then all-day Wednesday. We get full sunshine back for Thursday before gearing up for a little bit more of an unsettled pattern to finish the week.”
Some hit-and-miss scattered showers and thunderstorms can show up midday Friday. Martin is calling for up to 60% coverage of Michigan and says it could bring up to three quarters of an inch.
“Then we are hit-and-miss and unsettled through Saturday, Sunday, and Monday of the following week. It does look wet with a serious frontal boundary coming through with anywhere from a half to one and a half inches of rain and thunderstorm activity there.”
