Helping Soybean Farmers Stay One Step Ahead

Soybean growers are facing increasing pressure to maximize yields amid unpredictable weather, pests, and tight margins. But a new solution is helping farmers stay one step ahead.

According to Marc Hoobler, Lead Agronomist for Xitavo,“Soybean breeders are a really critical compartment of yield, so genetic gain year on year is really what farmers are after. Our breeders are really focused on yield especially in a year like this year where we’ve had excess moisture in some areas. The beans are getting taller so standability is another key indicator of what farmers are looking for and this is going to be a good year to really get a handle on which varieties are able to withstand some of the taller heights because of the moisture.”

Xitavo is more than just a seed—it’s part of a performance-driven system. Developed by BASF, Xitavo soybeans combine high-yielding genetics with the trusted Enlist E3 trait technology, giving growers enhanced weed control options and strong agronomic characteristics.

Hoobler continued, “I’ve never had a farmer ask me what’s old. They want to know what’s new and Xitavo is new. The genetics are new, they are diverse, they’re a new germ plasm pool that’s never been planted in the US before, so they are going to provide some things that other brands don’t. One of those is obviously yield. Farmers are always looking for yield. We have an in-house Pathology Lab that will fully characterize Xitavo varieties for diseases like white mold, SDS, phytophthora for example… so those diseases that are important for Farmers we’re making sure that we’re not creating a test plot in a farmer’s field we know where they go, how to position them, and what’s going to be best variety to fit their needs.”

With BASF’s agronomic support and field data backing every variety, growers can feel confident they’re planting more than just a seed—they’re investing in a system for success.
