MSU to Host Research Center Field Days This Summer

This summer, Michigan State University Extension and MSU AgBioResearch will be hosting field days at research centers around the state and on the MSU campus.

The events are open to the public and will feature topics of interest for growers, producers, industry professionals and anyone interested in learning the latest on MSU-led research and outreach related to critical topics concerning Michigan’s food and environment.

Topics include forest and natural resource management, forage, tillage, potatoes, turfgrass, wheat, wine grapes, among others.

Those interested in attending should contact the respective research center for additional details. Further information will be added to the research center websites as it becomes available.

  • June 16: Forage Field Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Upper Peninsula Research and Extension Center located at E3774 University Drive in Chatham. Join MSU experts and to view plots of alfalfa and grass while learning about forage research and management practices.
  • June 28: MSU Weed Tour from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. (corn and soybean tours) 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. (Non-GMO Soybean or horticulture tours) at the MSU Agronomy Farm located at 4450 Beaumont Road in Lansing. The tours will provide opportunity for participants to look at corn and soybean research plots and participate in some short field presentations.
  • June 29: Natural Resource Restoration and Management Field Day from 8 a.m. to noon at the Corey Marsh Ecological Research Center located at 9422 E. Herbison Road in Laingsburg.
  • July 26: Viticulture Field Day from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Southwest Michigan Research and Extension Center. The station is located at 1791 Hillandale Road in Benton Harbor. The center grows several types of fruit and conducts variety evaluations of numerous fruits and vegetables are just part of the work done at the 350-acre site. The all-day field day event will feature a steak fry and wine tasting.
  • Aug. 3: Potato Field Day from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Montcalm Research Center. The center is located at 4629 W. McBride Road in Lakeview. Presentation topics include sustainability, irrigation and potato storage management.
  • Aug. 8: Tillage Field Day at the on-campus Mason Research Farm located at 1614 Okemos Road in Mason.
  • Aug. 9: Turf Field Day at the on-campus Hancock Turfgrass Research Center. The center is located at 4444 Farm Lane in Lansing.
  • Aug. 24: Blueberry field day at the Trevor Nichols Research Center. The center is located at 6237 124th Ave. in Fennville, Michigan.
