Using Sentris Buffering Technology as Part of Your Engenia Program

The new dicamba label from EPA requires pH buffering agents to decrease the chances of drift into susceptible crops or woodlands.

As a result, BASF created Sentris Buffering Technology for its Engenia herbicide.

“It’s just a further innovation to help us properly steward dicamba applications, so it’s another tool in the toolbox,” said Trevor Kraus is the technical service representative with BASF in Michigan. “It helps prevent the pH of the spray solution becoming acidic, so Sentris helps reduce that potential for volatility.”

He says there’s also a side benefit for the applicator.

“The Sentris Buffering Technology also dramatically improves the ease of sprayer cleanout,” said Kraus. “It’s really important when we’re going from spraying Engenia to spraying some kind of sensitive crop, we want to make sure the sprayer is good and clean. Using Sentris helps with that spray cleanup, reduce volatility potential, and ease the cleanout of the sprayer.”

Kraus said the downwind buffer for woodlands, waterways, and uncultivated areas has increased to 240 feet from 110 feet.

“In some instances, that may make it a bit more challenging or give growers a bigger buffer area that they have to manage weeds in a different fashion,” he said.
