The agritourism industry here in Michigan has had to make adjustments to comply with social distancing guidelines. Angela Mackey, general manager of Flushing Farms, says with their 62-acres, they’re able to provide a safe environment.
“People are feeling pretty safe here, and they don’t have to wear their mask all the time because we have so much space,” she said. “Our corn mazes are made with 6 feet paths so people can safely pass each other. They’re happy to be out, happy to have someplace to go and something to do.”
Between seven miles of corn mazes, a pumpkin patch, petting zoo, wagon rides and children and adult bounce houses, there’s a lot to keep families occupied.
“We do birthday parties, group outings, a fire pit on colder days and nights,” said Mackey. “We do the maze at night so they can go through with a flashlight. Up front, we sell mums, corn stalks, straw bales, pumpkins, half peck apples, and of course we have our cider and doughnuts.”
Mackey said this year at Flushing Farms, they plan to hold a trick-or-treat event after the town of Flushing canceled its trick-or-treating.
“We decided to do it through out smaller mazes,” she said. “When we do the trick-or-treating, it will cost a little bit more than our regular admission, but they get to go through, get all the candy, and when they come out, they still get to do all the other activities.”
