The rest of the week and into the weekend, sunny and dry weather will prevail.
“We are literally seeing no major weather concerns across the state until we get into the weekend and early next week,” said Ryan Martin, chief meteorologist for Michigan Ag Today. “Moisture comes streaking across Minnesota and Wisconsin as we move through Wednesday into Thursday, but it dies before crossing Lake Michigan.”
With that stretch of favorable weather, Martin is calling for a “full out harvest assault.” However, that weather will break on Sunday. Martin is forecasting 80 percent of Michigan will see coverage of a quarter to three quarters of an inch of rain.
“As we go into Monday of next week, we might see a secondary lingering batch of moisture that tries to move through but it drifts a little bit farther to the south—southwestern Michigan into northern Indiana,” he said. “The next area of moisture we need to watch comes in next Tuesday—significant rain and thunderstorm action coming across the Great Lakes Region.”
Up to three quarters of an inch of rain is possible from that event, covering 90 percent of Michigan. Behind that front, Martin is calling for a cooler remainder of the week.
“That’ll keep more cloud around and probably slow our drying process a bit, so the best opportunity for field work comes now through Saturday,” he said.
