More of the same in the weather department here for Michigan—hot and dry. However, pop-up thunderstorms could be seen in parts of the Thumb and southern Michigan. According to Ryan Martin, Michigan Ag Today chief meteorologist, coverage will be around 50 percent of the state.
“Some of these storms may be a little strong, but as with any pop-up thunderstorm event you’re going to have to be lucky to really see good moisture come through,” he said.
Pop-up showers and storms could be possible Thursday afternoon, but the best chance of moisture will be Friday into Saturday.
“Nice rains coming through, at least a quarter to a half inch,” said Martin. “Some might see closer to three quarters.”
Martin is forecasting partly to mostly sunny skies for the weekend and through Wednesday next week.
“We could see some moisture over the northern third of Michigan Wednesday, but nothing much further south,” he said. “Otherwise we stay dry in all areas the rest of Michigan through next Thursday, Friday, potentially into the following Saturday.”
While there is some hit-and-miss moisture in the forecast, Martin isn’t going to ease up on dryness.
“I’m not sure the rains that come the end of the week are going to be significant enough to really do a whole lot at this point.”
