According to Michigan Ag Today chief meteorologist Ryan Martin, Michigan will be experiencing plenty moisture off and on throughout the weekend.
“It looks like Sunday will be the wetter day—if there is a day we escape with little to no moisture, it would be Saturday,” he said. “Going back to when the moisture started Thursday and through Sunday, Michigan has the potential to pick up a ½ inch to 3 inches in spots. Those 3-inch totals are specifically reliant on thunderstorms. There’s no reason to think we can’t see a refiring of thunderstorms at some point before the rain event is done.”
It looks like Michigan will shake that wet weather pattern and will start to dry off. Martin is also calling for temperatures that are normal to above normal.
“Excellent dry-down, excellent evaporation coming,” he said. “We’re going to need that considering the moderate to heavy moisture that we will have seen by that point. If we can keep our moisture totals to the lower half of our expected rain range, that means we might be able to get back into the fields the second half of this upcoming week.”
Martin expects the weather to remain dry until Saturday May 23. Then he’s calling for some hit and miss moisture in the extended picture.
“As we head into the week after next, the week of the 24th, you’re going to have to keep an eye out for a couple of rounds of scattered showers,” he said. “They will be focusing more on Northern Michigan than Southern Michigan right now. You can call this extended window slightly drier than normal.”
