Harvest Progress Slow as Rain, Snow Sweep Michigan

According to the USDA, there were only 1.9 days suitable for fieldwork in Michigan last week, which hurt harvest progress.

Not much of Michigan’s corn was harvested in a week. Corn harvested this week improved 4 percent to 25 percent complete, compared with the national average of 52 percent complete. 41 percent of the crop is rated good to excellent. 83 percent of the corn is mature.

Soybean harvest in Michigan is 21 points behind the five-year average. 57 percent of Michigan’s soybeans have been harvested, an increase of 11 points from the week prior.

Sugarbeet harvest has been advancing. 55 percent of the state’s sugarbeets have been harvested, an increase of 14 points from last week, and 13 points behind the five-year average of 68 percent complete. 70 percent of the entire sugarbeet crop has been harvested.
