Michigan Ag Today Chief Meteorologist Ryan Martin says there’s way too much moisture in the forecast over the course of the next week to 10 days. This is the Planting Weather Forecast brought to you by DAIRY DOO. Give your crops the best start with the help of DAIRY DOO from Morgan Composting.

That moisture Martin is talking about starts Friday.

“We’re going to be dealing with on-again, off-again moisture, I think, as we move through Friday and into the weekend, first over the north and then down south. And then Saturday/Sunday we see mostly central and southern Lower Michigan getting waylaid with thunderstorms. Overall, from Friday midday through Sunday morning, I think we’re going to have to look at least half to 2 inches of rain with coverage at around 80 percent of Michigan.”

Very cold air settles in behind that wave of moisture with chilly temperatures Sunday and Monday.

“I’m not concerned about frost or freeze or anything like that. Just a little bit of an aside: that is happening in Northern Plains areas before we see the cold air. But by the time we get to Tuesday, we’re seeing temperatures moderate a little bit.”

And then there’s more rain in Martin’s forecast.

“As we go through the Wednesday/Thursday timeframe, half to 2-inch rainfall totals coming there, and then going through Memorial Day weekend, Friday the 27th we’ve got scattered showers. quarter to 3 quarters of an inch, and Sunday the 29th we have anywhere from a half to one inch rain potential. So, we just have a lot of moisture coming with not much dry down in between.”
