Michigan Farm Bureau Celebrating National Ag Week

Monday kicks off National Ag Week, and Michigan Farm Bureau is excited at both the state and county level.

“At the state level, we are helping Farm Bureaus tell their story by running a social media contest for county Farm Bureaus to share local information about farms in their counties with the potential for the county organizations to win some prizes to further their agricultural education outreach efforts,” says Amelia Miller, promotion and education program specialist with Michigan Farm Bureau.

March is also Reading Month, so they’re joining the two events.

“That ties really nicely with our promotion and education outreach efforts and National Ag Week to showcase books that share an accurate story about agriculture and promote those to schools and teachers,” she says.

Another way MFB is connecting with schools and teachers is through the FARM Crate subscription program.

“This month, our box is garden and plant themed,” says Miller. “We are heavily promoting those and sharing how teachers have been using those to teach their students about agriculture, specifically growing plants.”

Miller says there’s no better week to promote agriculture and Michigan agriculture than through National Ag Week.

“We’re all familiar with many of those so-called “social media holidays” that help share a national something day,” she says. “It gives us as agriculture a platform to share with our legislators, with our communities, with our friends and family, schoolteachers and students, how important food, farming, and natural resources are to our daily lives. Any way you can tell your story as farmers, any day of the week—but particularly during National Agriculture Week—is a great way to celebrate.”

Later in the week, MFB will announce its 2021 Educator of the Year. We’ll bring you that story on air and online.
