A Needed Respite From Rain Next Week

Farmers have been waiting to hear this for some time now- some good news regarding the weather forecast! This is the Planting Weather Forecast from MAT Chief Meteorologist Ryan Martin brought to you by Seed Genetics Direct. Find them online at seedgeneticsdirect.com to learn how this family-owned seed company will work directly with you to meet your corn, soybean, wheat, alfalfa, and herbicide needs.

Martin’s forecast for Friday shows a mostly dry day in Michigan.

“For the most part, I am feeling that the moisture for the Friday/early Saturday period is going to stay mostly south of I-94. Now, there’s going to be a few locations that get it north of 94, but you get the idea. Southern tier counties of lower Michigan will be the only place that we’re going to be seeing significant moisture in the short haul. I think we have to allow for a quarter to one inch in those areas, but it’s also done by Saturday midday, and we should start to get sunshine back relatively quickly.”

And that sunshine is going to stick around for a while! Martin says we’re dry, warm, and sunny from Sunday through next Saturday.

“This is going to promote a lot of drying, and since most of the state missed out on moisture to finish this past week, I think that we’re going to be able to take full advantage of the dry window probably from Tuesday/Wednesday forward in the entire state. Temperatures in the soil are going to be coming up as well. I think we have a great opportunity to get a good start on fieldwork here in Michigan this coming week.”

That dry period will come to a close late next weekend. Scattered hit-and-miss showers are in Martin’s forecast for overnight Saturday into Sunday the 15th covering about 40% of the state, but that kicks off a more active weather pattern in the extended 11–16-day forecast.

“In particular, we’re watching a fairly significant storm complex coming out of the central plains, Missouri Valley area, shooting toward the Great Lakes for the late 17th or early 18th timeframe.”
