A Dry Start to the Weekend Before Rain Moves Over Michigan

The weekend starts dry but won’t finish that way across much of the state. This is the Planting Weather Forecast from MAT Chief Meteorologist Ryan Martin brought to you by DAIRY DOO. Give your crops the best start with the help of DAIRY DOO from Morgan Composting.

Martin says we’ll be dry today and most of the day tomorrow, but rain tries to sneak in Sunday.

“Clouds are increasing overnight Saturday night in central Michigan as moisture wants to streak out of Wisconsin and move right through central Michigan. So, on Sunday, I think we have to leave the door open to a quarter to 3 quarters of an inch of rain from Gaylord southward in Lower Michigan. The biggest concentration will be in central Michigan, but I won’t rule out scattered showers overnight Sunday night into early Monday down in southern Lower Michigan. Then we see a continued chance of showers through Monday evening from the tip of The Thumb down to about the Benton Harbor area. The rest of Michigan stays dry.”

Martin’s forecast calls for a dry Wednesday and that will carry into early Thursday.

“We have another round of moisture Thursday afternoon or Friday. Right now, we’re looking at a quarter to 3 quarters of an inch of moisture with 80 percent coverage across the state. Then going into the following weekend, we do dry down. Temperatures though are going to be normal, at best. It doesn’t look like we have a huge surge of warm air coming in the short haul part of the forecast.”

Martin’s extended 11 to 16-day forecast window starts dry, but weather systems are developing in the western Canadian Prairies and the northern Rockies.

“Those should be on track to be here right around the 13th into the 14th, so we’re still looking at some moisture there in that week. We do look for that moisture to be in that quarter to 3 quarter inch range. It’s not gully washing rains, but still plenty of moisture around.”
