Tackling Tar Spot and stopping Southern Rust are two of the main objectives next year for corn producers. That’s why FMC has a couple of fungicides to consider for 2026.
“We introduced Adastrio® here a year or so ago—a full year fungicide in corn,” says Gail Stratman, Regional Technical Manager with FMC.
“It’s very strong on Tar Spot, Southern Rust, Gray Leaf Spot, Northern Corn Leaf Blight—all those big yield robbers that we see in corn, Adastrio® has shown tremendous abilities to combat those diseases and offers that planned health protection that we’re looking throughout the season,” says Stratman.
Another fungicide from FMC for corn producers to consider is Xyway®.
“Xyway® is used to manage some of that early season disease pressure, and it sets them up for determining whether or not they need that foliar in-season application after tassel,” he says. “We’ve added side dress applications to that where we can now do that application in-season in a growing crop, put it between the rows or the roots pick it up, and the disease protection happens from there.”
Stratman adds if you’ve been lucky enough not to have tar spot or southern rust show up yet, it doesn’t mean you’ll still be in the clear next year.
“Corn always has a host of disease pathogens that can produce and be subjected to. Every year is a little bit different. That’s why we need to be diligent—and stay in tune with our retailers, our crop consultants, our extension folks—because they’re going to be the first line of identifying exactly what’s happening, and offering that predictability of potentially what could be a problem,” says Stratman.
