A Temperature Roller Coaster

.

.

Chief Meteorologist Ryan Martin says we will be dominated this weekend by strong north and northwest breezes.

“Clouds around off and on the next 3 days. Moisture? Yep…we’re going to have to watch for some spits and sprinkles mostly near the lakeshores themselves – Western Michigan and up into the U.P. but I also think the best day for that will be Saturday. We could see a few hundredths to a tenth or two in some of those spots. Further inland, I just don’t think we have much of a concern here and definitely not a big concern for moisture. What we can see is that any moisture that falls keeps us damp for the entire day over the course of the weekend.”

According to Martin, a warm front will bring strong warming next week.

“A warm front lifting on Michigan on Monday means we have clouds around morning and mid-day, maybe a few spits and sprinkles, but by late afternoon we’re seeing full sunshine back in here and then we clear out overnight Monday night as well. Tuesday through Friday sunny, warm and dry here as we continue to see some as we continue to see southwest flow work in. Now the southwest winds will be strong to start the week easing back a little bit more toward Thursday and Friday. Overall, an excellent week to be out in the field and continue to work on or even finish up harvest. We should see good evaporation and with temperatures in the 60s or trying to push near there through the heart of next week, that should give us some very good drying opportunities.”

Martin believes that the following weekend we should see some scattered showers that will come through in two waves.

“The first one on Saturday is early on in the day, we could see a 10th to half an inch there with coverage around 60% of Michigan. The second one on Sunday is driven more by cool air that parks over the top of us. So less coverage (only 30%) and less total (a few hundredths to a tenth or two). Kind of spotty but it is going to be damp to finish the weekend. We follow that up with a big warm up to start the week of the 10th (Monday and Tuesday) quite warm and windy but very dry. Then we see much cooler air sagging out of Canada the second half of that week. Air probably slows our drying progress a little bit, but not seeing huge moisture in that temperature change.”
