On Thursday, the U.S. House of Representatives passed the Reconciliation Bill, which has also been referred to as President Trump’s “One Big, Beautiful Bill.”

The bill, which passed by just one vote (215-214), includes provisions to boost the farmer safety net through both improvements to commodity programs and premium subsidies for crop insurance.

In addition, the bill cut spending for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) by $294 billion over 10 years. The majority of those savings, $128.3 billion, would come by requiring states to provide 5-to-25 percent cost share for SNAP benefits.

“The One Big Beautiful Bill Act delivers on the mandate voters gave President Trump and Republicans by stopping tax hikes, reining in spending, investing in rural America, and restoring integrity to programs like SNAP, and I look forward to working with the Senate to get it to the President’s desk,” said Rep. Glenn “G.T.” Thompson (R-PA-15), Chair of the House Agriculture Committee.

Rep. Jim Baird (R-IN-04), who also serves on the House Agriculture Committee, released the following statement on social media following the bill’s passage:

The following ag leaders and organizations also released statements following the bill’s passage:

National Corn Growers Association (NCGA) President Kenneth Hartman:

“Congress took a large legislative step forward today with the House passage of the budget reconciliation bill. We encourage the U.S. Senate to include corn growers’ priorities as the legislation is changed and considered going forward. For example, the bill is an opportunity for extending year-round, consumer access to E15. We will continue to advocate for the inclusion of our tax and agriculture priorities, which are important to the financial wellbeing of farmers and their families.”

National Cattlemen’s Beef Association (NCBA) President Buck Wehrbein:

“Cattle farmers and ranchers need Congress to invest in cattle health, strengthen our resources against foreign animal disease, support producers recovering from disasters or depredation, and pass tax relief that protects family farms and ranches for future generations. Thankfully, this reconciliation bill includes all these key priorities. NCBA was proud to help pass this bill in the House and we will continue pushing for these key policies until the bill is signed into law.”

American Farm Bureau Federation (AFBF) President Zippy Duvall:

“Farm Bureau applauds the House passage of H.R.1, which modernizes farm bill programs and extends and improves critical tax provisions that benefit America’s small farmers and ranchers.

“Updated reference prices will provide more certainty for farmers struggling through tough economic times. Making business tax deductions permanent and continuing current estate tax exemptions will ensure thousands of families will be able to pass their farms to the next generation.

“We urge the Senate to work together and swiftly pass legislation to deliver much-needed relief to America’s farm and ranch families.”

Bill H.R.1, the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, will now move onto the Senate.
